Getting Started

There are some modules that all volunteers are obliged to complete within the first 5 months of volunteering, which are known as our getting started modules.

Module 1 

This is our Essential Information module and is completed by all volunteers.

This module gives an overview of our policies, including how we go about developing our young people, and the support structure available to our volunteers. It also gives an overview of our Safety Policy and our Child Protection Policy.

Module 2

This module is the completion of a training plan. This involves identifying what skills and previous experience that the volunteer has, so that they can count it towards their training. If any further learning is needed, the volunteer can discuss how to go about this with their training adviser.

The training plan will form the basis for further meetings, identify how each module will be validated and act as a ‘road map’ to completing their Wood Badge.

Modules 3/4

The third part of Getting Started is training about the different sections in Scouting such as the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Scout Network, identifying the differences between ithe different sections, and looking at the awards and ceremonies of each of the sections.

You will complete one of two modules:

  • Module 3 is completed by leaders working within the​ sections.
  • Module 4 is completed by those volunteering for management roles.​

General Data Protection Regulatations (GDPR)

GDPR is a mandatory module for all appointments. It covers the basic information that individual’s need to know in relation to the General Data Protection Regulations, what this means for their role and for Scouting and how to effectively align with it.

To complete this module, complete the e-learning and then send your certificate to out Training Advisor:
