Ongoing Training

Once you have completed your wood badge (appointment qualification) you are obliged to complete 5 hours of ongoing learning each year. There are some mandatory ongoing learning tasks every 3 years:

First Response (or higher) every 3 years​. Book your next course through our events calendar or by speaking to your Group Leader or Training Adviser.

Safeguarding Awareness

You need to complete the online training course every 3 years.

This course will look at recognizing the signs and symptoms of abuse, how to report an incident / concern / worry / gut feeling that you have about a young person, and good practice solutions that adults in Scouting will encounter with young people in their sections.

Safety Awareness

You need to complete the online training course every 3 years.

This course looks The Scout Association’s Safety Policy:

  • Risk assessment and continued understanding of hazard, risk and dynamic risk assessment.
  • The role of the leader in charge.
  • Support and resources available to help carry out responsibilities in relation to safety, including POR and activity roles.
  • Reporting of near misses and minor and serious injuries, including what to do in an emergency.

E-learning Certificates

Complete the online learning and send the certificate to your Training Advisor/Local Training Manager or the National Training Team: training.compliance@scouts.org.uk. If certificate generation does not work, then take a screenshot. To do this press the ‘PrntScrn’ button on your keyboard. Then click paste in a word processor – it will then paste the image for you to save and email.
